Day 207

It’s Day 207 of the Ohio Shutdown and Day 143 of Racists and Anarchists Busting Shit Up.

Deb and I are doing just fine. Right now I’m posted up here at Second Chance Ranch, not expecting trouble from tonight’s “demonstration” but prepared nevertheless.

The Quote of the Day comes from Josh Seas of 610WTVN:

“When did we start letting emotionally crippled, insane people run the country?

Damned good question, Josh. But here we are.

On the WuFlu front, I’m pleased to say that the Ohio General Assembly took a step toward reining-in our governor. Senate Bill 374, if enacted, would reinstate bar hours to what they were before the “pandemic” nonsense.

The measure appears to have support from both sides of the political aisle, probably enough to override the governor’s veto. He opposes it, of course.

It’s something — not everything, but at least it’s something.

The presidential candidates’ “town hall” appearances last night were useless, both of them, thanks to the moderators.

Trump had to deal with the contentious spouse of a former aide to Al Gore. By contrast, Daffy McHairsniffer was coddled by a former communications director in the Clinton administration.

Journalism didn’t even rate a cameo.

Seriously, if after last night’s performances you still doubt that the press is totally in the tank for Daffy, you’re not right in the head.

Trump supporters are employing some faulty logic this election season. We all know that many polls show him down to Daffy, and by double digits — just like 2016. So that means he’ll beat the polls again and win in a landslide, right?

Maybe. Probably not. Either way, the odds aren’t in Trump’s favor.

It’s obvious that a wide swath of the electorate hates this president more than they love America. We can’t reach those people. Write them off.

There’s also a segment of the population that loves America and has benefitted from Trump’s policies, but dammit, they just don’t like Trump. It comes down to personality. He doesn’t fit their concept of “presidential.”

Over 20 years ago, unexpectedly, I had to hire a divorce lawyer. I took a friend’s recommendation and went to meet with an accomplished attorney by the name of Jim.

After he listened to me describe my situation, Jim talked at length about his qualifications, his experience and his approach to matters of domestic law. I found him abrasive, even a bit nasty, downright unlikeable.

He paused, took a sip of water, and looked me in the eye.

“I know who I am,” he said. “I’m aware that I rub some people the wrong way. I know my style isn’t right for everyone. If it’s not for you, I completely understand.”

“Jim,” I said, “I’m not here to hire a nanny. I want a pit bull, not a pastor. You’re my guy.”

We shook hands. I wrote a check for his retainer.

Jim was the right tool for the job.

I’ve heard it said that on November 3rd we cast votes, not Valentines. We don’t have to like a candidate to do the right thing.

Over the last four years, Trump has demonstrated that he’s the right tool for the job. The alternative — a doddering old man in the throes of senile dementia, who’d soon be succeeded by a woman who slept her way up the political ladder — would be disastrous for America.

Trump will get my vote.

Take care of yourselves. Stay free.
