Day 263: What will we say?

It’s Day 263 of 15 Days to Flatten the Curve and Day 23 of Ohio’s 21-day WuFlu Curfew. It’s also worth noting that today is the 271st day that Ohio’s bars and restaurants have been crippled by the governor — without him offering a shred of science to justify it.

Deb and I are ok.

We had another productive day in the bus. Deb’s been lining all the shelves and drawers with sheets of “grippy stuff” to keep things from shifting in transit, something that worked well for us with the Bumper Bunker, and she’s nearly done with that.

A couple of gas props, one on a basement-compartment door and one under the bed platform, needed repair, so I took care of those this morning. I also installed new HVAC filters, replacing media that may well have been original to the coach.

The ceiling in a motorhome is necessarily low. How clean or dirty the fixtures are is apparent to most people, even more obvious to me since I’m a lot closer to it. We’ve washed the ceiling surface itself, along with skylights, lamp lenses, fan housings, ductwork vents, smoke detectors and so on. Today I finished the job by thoroughly cleaning the HVAC grilles.

It’s tedious work, but the difference it makes is astounding and will last a long while.

Oh, and today I discovered that Ernie’s windshield washer doesn’t work — the pump runs, but the lines are either cracked, clogged or disconnected. One more item for my to-do list.

Every year at this time we’re presented with a scheduled reminder that the popular media are out of touch, out of time and loyal poodles of the political Left. That reminder, of course, is Time magazine’s annual “Person of the Year” announcement.

It’s been decades since the magazine has been interesting, much less journalistically relevant. I fully expected the editors to award the designation to a virus this year. But no, they named… Daffy McHairsniffer and Chuckles the Hooker.

That’s like giving a Nobel to an American president before he’s been in office nine months — it’s a tribute, published payola, a signal of virtue. Like everything else from the Left, it carries neither significance nor value.

These days I often find myself thinking about how we’ll explain 2020 (and 2021, probably) to our kids and grandkids — not a description of the events themselves, but rather an honest recounting of what we did (and didn’t do) as America is unmade.

It’ll be less of a history lesson and more of a confession, I believe.

We’ll have to admit that we allowed government to be our nanny. We’ll say that we didn’t push back, we didn’t object and we didn’t resist. Even if we knew our federal and state constitutions, we didn’t demand that the State operate within the limited authority they grant and avoid violating the rights they protect.

If we’re telling the truth, we’ll say that we were more concerned about toilet paper than we were about Liberty.

We’ll say that when Marxist Merchants of Racism descended on our cities, we didn’t fight back. We made allowances and apologies instead of driving rioters from our midst. We didn’t stand between The Mob and the statues they sought to destroy. We allowed cops to be defunded and hunted without meaningful support.

Most of us will be forced to explain how the hell we could possibly vote for a senile old man and a prostitute in a presidential election.

We’ll struggle to defend how we could support a ticket that stood against culture, constitution and country. We’ll need to come up with a plausible explanation for voting against an accomplished, pro-America incumbent because, well, we just didn’t like him.

And we’ll have to account for our silence while Democrats exploited racism and a State-manufactured crisis to corrupt, poison and fix a federal election.

We have much to answer for.

Take care of yourselves, Patriots. Stay free.
