It’s Day 300 of Richard Michael DeWine’s war on Ohio’s bars and restaurants. Tomorrow will make it a full 43-week assault.
Three hundred days ago our worthless governor, with Dr. Amy Achtung jerking his leash, made his big move to destroy this state’s food-service industry. Since then he’s succeeded in crushing countless small restaurants and neighborhood bars, driving even entire franchises out of Ohio and vaporizing thousands of jobs in the process.
And he hasn’t let up. Oh, he’s thrown a bone or two, but he’s made damned sure that the remaining establishments struggle mightily to survive. Many won’t.
The damage in incalculable, his actions unforgiveable.
He’s done all of this without offering credible medical or scientific justification — and, to be candid, he’s assaulted the state’s bars and restaurants without serious challenge from the industry group which purports to represent them.
It’s been nothing but theater, all the way around. And it didn’t have to happen.
Depending on when you’re reading this, grab yourself a cup of coffee, or pour a shot of whiskey (you might want to make it a double), and get comfortable. I’m about to give you a link to the most useful exercise in journalism since Wednesday’s storming of the Capitol.
Ready?
The article is “28 Times Media And Democrats Excused Or Endorsed Violence Committed By Left-Wing Activists,” published Thursday in The Federalist. (Click on the title to read the piece.) As the headline promises, it documents more than two dozen examples of the ideological Left putting its stamp of approval on three months of violent unrest.
That it’s limited to 28 means it’s only the tip of the proverbial iceberg, of course, but the article makes its point.
The same mainstream media that’s now waxing hysterical, the same elected officials now bleating in favor of removing a sitting president with 11 days left to serve, all last summer were advocates and apologists for violence that makes Wednesday’s incident look like a quilting bee.
And how do these race-baiting leftists explain their about-face?
They don’t — because they don’t have to. When everyone already knows that lying and trashing America is fundamental to who you are, and when half the country approves of your racist, anti-American propaganda, you really don’t have to introduce yourself.
What’s more — and this is the real stunner — the sanctimonious scum who spent the better part of five years assaulting a president, disparaging his supporters, attacking law enforcement, censoring our speech and waging war on traditional American culture now have the balls to insist that we “come together” in a “spirit of unity.”
Now see, that’s gonna be a problem.
There is no common ground. There will be no unity. Go to hell.
Deb and I are fine today, by the way. When we entered the RVing world last June with the purchase of our modest Bumper Bunker, it opened up a whole new world to us — opportunities, responsibilities, knowledge, skills and more. The motorhome has raised every one of those bars, along with our game.
We’ve found it helpful to plug into what I’m told is called the “hive mind.” RVers gather in chat forums and social-media groups to share information and experiences, from tech tips and hacks to recipes and travelogues.
It’s pretty cool, if you want to know the truth, and what we’ve learned has helped us avoid more than one mistake. Creeping on other RVers also allows us to see how they approach the pastime — and believe me when I tell you that not everyone does it the same way.
Take, for example, what we consider the biggest plus of an RV — simply put, bringing our home with us. We have our own kitchen with our own food and drink, our own appliances, our own pots and pans and our own tableware. We have our own bed and our own bedding. We have our own bathroom with our own flush toilet, our own shower and our own towels.
Hot and cold running water. Electricity. Gas. Heat when it’s cold outside and air conditioning when it’s hot. I mean, this ain’t roughin’ it — trust me, I’ve done my time — and we love the Life.
Now you’d think that every glamper, especially in this WuFlu World of ours, would embrace such self-containment. Strangely, at least to me, that’s not the case.
A surprising number of people don’t make use of their RV’s kitchen — like, at all. Some are terrified of LP gas and refuse to touch their cooktop or oven. (That same fear keeps them from using a gas-fired RV furnace, by the way.) In the summer, some don’t like it that the stove raises the temp a few degrees in their camper’s small interior. Or they don’t trust the purity of their onboard fresh-water supply for cooking, washing dishes or brushing teeth.
And then there’s the odd way many RVers treat their fully equipped bathrooms. It’s true that a camper’s limited onboard water supply must be conserved, which requires employing a “combat shower” technique — turn the water on, get wet, shut the water off, soap up, turn the water on, rinse, turn the water off, done. Some folks don’t like that and never shower in their RV, preferring a public washhouse where they can leave the water running. I still don’t get that.
Lots of RVers don’t use their toilets at all. Common are odd rituals like using the built-in toilet only for liquid waste — no pooping, that is — or using it for all bodily business but depositing soiled toilet paper in an adjacent bag or bucket. I swear I didn’t make that up.
We, on the other hand, mean to use every convenience our RV provides. That’s why it’s there, we figure. We know that taking responsibility for knowing the rig’s systems, maintaining them and caring for them — sanitizing the fresh-water tank a couple of times a year, for example, and filtering the supply. Dumping the waste tanks, using the proper treatments, keeping an eye on levels and flushing the black tank occasionally. Regularly testing the LP/CO detector and being disciplined about the state of the gas supply.
As for taking navy showers, well, for us it beats the hell out of some sketchy public washhouse.
To wrap today’s post I have some personal observations about what true Americans are facing these days, along with a word of advice. I do it with clear eyes and a clear conscience, without having to engage in any soul-searching about who I am and what I stand for.
This is a very precarious time. Anyone who supported Trump, people of faith, gun owners, especially white Americans… patriotic, conservative, traditional Americans are in the crosshairs of an emboldened Left.
Listen to the venomous rhetoric from high-profile Democrats and their media mouthpieces. Hear them talk openly of “cleansing.” Notice how tech tyrants already are shutting down our means of communicating and our sources of information. Empty threats have become promises kept.
They’re coming for us.
As I warned months ago, we’re entering a time of retribution. It will get worse.
My advice, respectfully, is this: Forget about Trump. He’s gone. It’s over.
This is no longer about one president. No matter how passionately you support him, let it go.
It’s about our country. If you’re a Patriot who’s worth a damn, it always has been.
Take care of yourselves, Patriots. Stay calm. Stay sharp. Stay free.
