Day 293: Milestone

This is Day 293 of 15 Days to Flatten the Curve and Day 53 of a 21-Day WuFlu Curfew here in Ohio.

Deb and I continue to be well.

It was on October 9th, 93 days ago, that I posted to Ubi Libertas for the first time. If you’ve been tagging along the last three months, you know that this blog is changing as it grows. I’m rummaging around, metaphorically speaking, looking for my voice. But what you’re reading right now represents a milestone.

This is my 100th post.

My sincere thanks to everyone who likes and follows what I write, especially those of you who find it’s worth sharing with others. I take that personally.

Truth is, I’d actually had ubilibertas.blog secured for some time before making use of it. As much as I loathe procrastinating, I kept putting off doing something with this space — my daily Facebook posts were doing just enough to scratch my itch.

Then, in the midst of cultural madness, less than a month before a pivotal presidential election, I looked around. I re-read my own words and carefully considered the counsel of others. All the signs were there. I pulled the trigger on this blog.

And not a moment too soon.

In case you haven’t noticed, The Purge has begun. Words like “elimination,” “removal” and “cleansing” are now official talking points of The Party. People like you and me are being marginalized, run off, shut down and shut out, swept away by a wave of ideological hubris we knew was coming.

Without overestimating my own significance here, there’s little doubt that I qualify as a target, and I’m glad I chose to diversify my virtual footprint when I did. This modest blog has attracted dozens of followers, and last time I looked the Ubi Libertas page on Facebook has drawn more than 150. I’ve also set up a page on Parler, which itself is under siege as I type this.

Everything I post on Ubi Libertas I share, in link form, on Facebook and Parler. In addition, I post to my personal pages on Facebook, MeWe and USA Life. It’s conceivable that I’ll follow with more platforms, but that’s it for now.

I hope it’s enough.

The tide of censorship will continue to rise. The Left won’t stop trying to silence us. We know we’re right, but righteousness alone won’t get the job done — we must win. Whatever it takes, we have to win.

As long as I have breath, I will speak.

Tell the others.

Daffy McHairsniffer is being propped up at a podium nearly every day now, treating us to his mumbles and his stumbles, slurring like he’s half in the bag. With his inauguration still a ways off, this past week he began race-baiting at his very first opportunity:

“No one can tell me that if that had been a group of Black Lives Matter protesting ]Wednesday], they wouldn’t have been treated very, very differently than the mob of thugs that stormed the Capitol.”

What’s not coming through the words on your screen is Daffy’s inflection when he said “thugs” — with contrived emphasis, as if he was simultaneously punched in the gut. He over-enunciated the word as an insult to anyone who dares oppose him, including every Patriot within the sound of his voice. And he delivered it with all the bravado of an unassailable man, standing behind a security cordon with his propaganda detail.

Get used to this — the insults, the race-hustling, the pasted-on virtue, all of it. These people are just warming up.

Thomas Paine published Common Sense on January 9th, 1776. His words, in this pamphlet and The American Crisis, as well as in Pennsylvania Magazine, unquestionably shaped the founding and encouraged the Founders themselves.

We’d do well to return to Paine from time to time and absorb his wisdom. Like this, from 245 years ago yesterday in Common Sense:

“When men yield up the exclusive privilege of thinking, the last shadow of liberty quits the horizon.”

We’ve pissed away our birthrights in large measure because we’ve abandoned Reason. The loss of Liberty is the direct result of an unwillingness to think critically. A thoughtless man remains willfully ignorant and of no consequence, unable to act in ways that matter.

Far too many of us fail to do what matters — and do the opposite, or do nothing — because we’ve walked away from what Paine called “the privilege of thinking.” We have become inconsequential. The radiant sun of Liberty is setting.

The stain is on us. The burden is on our children.
