Puttering

This is Day 388 of 15 Days to Flatten the Curve. Here in The Great State of Ohio, Richard Michael DeWine is playing with color codes — again.

Whatever. Deb and I are ok.

Watching me hobble and hearing me grumble last night, Deb encouraged me to take today off. She let me sleep in this morning (’til 7:30am), insisting that I throttle back and chill for a day. The perfect complement to my bullheaded nature, she’s wise that way.

I did as she asked — sort of.

Compared to the last two days, I suppose, I was positively motionless.

I had the parts I needed to complete a couple of low-effort upgrades to the bus. I couldn’t let my Thursday pass without doing something. And that’s what I did.

Apparently, some types of flying insects (like mud daubers) are attracted to the smell of liquid propane and tend to build nests in the exhaust vents of RVs. Discovering a wasp nest in Ernie’s water heater, fridge or furnace vent would seriously ruin our day, so we decided to install screens designed to prevent that.

Today I attached three narrow stainless-steel screens in the refrigerator’s exterior grille and another covering the water-heater vent. The latter was supplied with maddening springs that I tossed in favor of zip-ties, which is how the fridge screens are secured.

Covers for the furnace exhausts should arrive this weekend.

This afternoon I got to thinking back to the day we took a GPS-prompted wrong turn on the way to our campground, and the mess it made of the coach when we nearly got stuck in the Tennessee mud. I remembered snapping a cell-phone pic of the right-front wheel and tire after we’d settled on our campsite.

That prompted me to take another photo today and put the two images side-by-side.

I feel a great deal of pride when I see how a little hard work transformed Ernie. Deb’s doing the same with the interior. It’s the way we were raised.

By the way, while washing and waxing the bus this week I discovered another casualty of that wrong turn — the right-rear mud flap is missing, probably pulled off when the foot of the jack just behind it was dislodged.

Another item for my to-do list.

I think that’s all for today. Deb’s orders.

Take care of yourselves, my fellow Angry Americans. Stay calm. Stay sharp. Stay free.

And remember: Nothing is more important than Liberty.
