Packing up

The title of today’s post might lead you to believe that we’ll be occupied all day with striking camp in preparation for our departure tomorrow morning, and that’s not the case. We have a lot to do, for sure, but we’ll head into Bandera this morning to see the weekly (during the summer) cowboy festivities. We’ll do our packing this afternoon before relaxing with our friends on the deck of their homestead (followed by an early bedtime, I’m sure).

We did go into town for a meal yesterday at the Old Forge — a cup of Texas chili (no beans), a plate of Cajun pasta and a huge chunk of bread pudding with bourbon sauce. Wonderfully good.

Twice during the day I pulled out my SLR gear to photograph the wildlife from our hosts’ deck overlooking the Hill Country. The images I posted here yesterday were captured via cell phone and GoPro, and they were ok, but I decided the subject deserved something better.

Truth is, my real quarry was the Mexican eagles that often soar overhead, but none flew within reach. The black vultures were close by and numerous, however, and equally as graceful (if not as colorful).

Once again, hummingbirds were the stars of the show.

I believe I’ll end this post here and advance into the day. It promises to be memorable.

Take care of yourselves, Patriots. Stay calm. Stay sharp. Stay free.
