Hey, they must be gettin’ serious about this

Gasoline was pumped today. Fresh water was fetched and waste-water tanks were dumped. But the big news on The Mountain — and the sole reason for this post — is that we’re one step closer to running electric power from the road to the homesite.

It began before 8am and was over by 9:30am, the setting of our temporary meter pole across the driveway from where the RV sits. It went quickly and efficiently, the electrical contractor and his helper raising the 20-foot pole and easing it down into the Sonotube we’d prepared.

Our backhoe guy will return tomorrow morning to get the pole perfectly plumb and pile the rest of the structural clay around it. Then we’ll need the electric utility’s engineer to approve what all we’ve done before the transformer pole is set and power flows.

So much of what’s happened on The Mountain is subtle, often temporary or even invisible. This, today, is tangible and permanent. And that has us feeling good tonight — progress.

Take care of yourselves, Patriots. Stay calm. Stay sharp. Stay free.
