On the matter of buying a cabin from a Hawaiian YouTuber in The Ozarks

Deb and I, as advertised, were off to Missouri this morning. Our destination was West Plains, 70 miles and 90 minutes from The Mountain. We (mostly Deb) began laying the groundwork for this over a month ago, and today it finally was time to pull the trigger.

For our house, we settled on a “portable” cabin built by Graceland — the combination of quality and value sold us. And though there’s a Graceland dealer close by in Mountain Home, we decided to do business with a guy 70 miles away, a native Hawaiian with a YouTube channel. He ends every video with, “Aloha from The Ozarks.”

He’s always been responsive to our messages, always helpful. He even stopped by The Mountain recently, on a Sunday. He wanted our business, and he damned sure was gonna get it.

After a spectacular drive this morning — across Lake Norfork, through rolling farm country — we arrived at the Graceland lot on Porter Wagoner Boulevard. There we met Richard, the proprietor, and discussed what we had in mind.

We knew we wanted a 16×40. We intended to design it ourselves (window and door placement, siding and roof colors, etc.), but while strolling the lot we saw one right there that appealed to us. It didn’t have quite everything we would’ve ordered, but it was close enough that we felt that we definitely could make it work.

The price was right, and it could be delivered in three to five weeks (instead of two or three months for a special order). And so we did the deal.

The experience of working with Richard at his West Plains office, by the way, was every bit as satisfying as dealing with him via text message and in-person that afternoon on The Mountain. We couldn’t’ve been more pleased with how things went today.

We already have a Home. Now we have a house — a cabin that soon will make its way to our little piece of heaven in Ozarkansas. As we drove back this afternoon, Deb and I were on top of the world.

Now, of course, we have lots of work to do before the cabin gets here — prepare the pad, get concrete blocks ordered and delivered, bring down a few trees (ones that’ll be easier to fell without the structure in place) and make sure our road will accommodate an oversize load.

Stay tuned for all that.

Take care of yourselves, Patriots. Stay calm. Stay sharp. Stay free.
