‘the simple beauty of this place’

It shouldn’t come as a shock that several far-right media outlets are reporting that the Daffy McHairsniffer regime plans to issue new WuFlu mandates about a month from now. The story started with InfoWars, which cited high-level sources within TSA and Border Patrol.

So… is it true?

I have no idea. It’s plausible, at the very least, given the Left’s predisposition for hysteria and control. Plus, there’s a presidential election coming up in less than 15 months, and mandates would pave the way for mail-in ballots. That’s straight from the progressive playbook.

State-controlled media are scrambling dutifully to “debunk” the story, and they’re all taking the same tack — that InfoWars is (to put it gently) unreliable, and that its Alex Jones is a raving lunatic. Both of those happen to be true, actually, but neither is an argument against the story itself.

The regime’s denials are laughable. I mean, a while back Deb and I bought a gas stove on published rumors of a ban explicitly denied by the current occupant of the Oval Office. It wasn’t long before we were proven right and he was shown (again) to be a lying sack of shit.

The timing of new mandates, relative to the elections, is the most convincing reason to put stock in this story. Just like they did in 2020, Democrats won’t be buying votes — they’re controlling votes.

(Pro tip: In the run-up to Election Day 2024, when you see an increase in so-called “mass shootings” in the news, the explanation is the same. Just so you know. )

Nothing from this regime would surprise me. Progressives mean to control us all. They hate us. Fortunately for Deb and me, the place we now call Home is a bastion of fierce non-compliance. The merchants of mandates can go fuck themselves.

I got more done this morning than I thought I would, despite muggy conditions. (It’s what the old folks used to call “close.”) I filled in a few low spots, re-routed the 50A cord, re-set the protective speed bump and staked down the patio mat next to the RV.

We haven’t had our outdoor living space set up that way in weeks, accommodating (or anticipating, anyway) construction traffic on the homesite. The next time we uproot will be when blocks are delivered, and again when the cabin arrives on The Mountain.

Incidentally, I noticed yesterday that the power line stretching from the transformer pole to our meter pole is sagging considerably in this heat. My eyes tell me that its low point may have drooped a foot or more. That could play hell with getting the cabin onto the pad, so we’ll have to keep an eye on it.

While Deb and I were making a fresh-water run this morning, headed toward her cousin’s cabin in the shadow of Hall Mountain, both of us marveled out loud at the simple beauty of this place.

Hard as it may be to believe, after all this time we’re still in love with our surroundings.

The hum of mechanized equipment has disturbed the peace of The Mountain for the better part of a year now. When we moved here in June, we brought a generator that ran 12 hours a day. Our comings and goings, though infrequent (and more infrequent every day), disrupt the quiet.

Only within the last week, really, have we noticed wildlife starting to come closer again. More birds than we’ve seen here before. Squirrels. That whitetail doe the other day. These and more are all around us, and we know that. It’s just a matter of them deciding that we belong here, too.

Today, after beating heat and humidity to a few chores, we chilled some before our weekly trip to the laundromat in Gassville. On the way back, we did curbside pickup at the Flippin Walmart and grabbed ice-cream treats at Sonic in Yellville.

It all feels very familiar to us now, as if we’ve been here for many years instead of a couple of months. I think we’ve found our rhythm.

Take care of yourselves, Patriots. Stay calm. Stay sharp. Stay free.
