I love mornings. I prefer morning light, morning sights and sounds, and morning people. So when the plumber we contacted for a quote on the cabin asked if he could swing by at 8am today, I had a feeling we’d hit it off.
And we did. Father and son, transplanted long ago from Illinois and Wisconsin. They seem like the kind of guys we can work with, and tomorrow we should get some numbers to consider.
We also heard back today from an electrician we’d asked for a competitive quote. He came in 25% lower than our previous estimate, for the same work. Once we have the interior walls up, I believe that’s who we’ll go with.
Deb and have been doing curbside pickup of provisions for quite a while now. I honestly can’t remember the last time we went grocery shopping in the conventional, pre-WuFlu sense. Today we broke the pattern and did it twice — first Dollar General, followed by Harps.
The experience reminded us that some of the first folks we connected with here in Marion County work in grocery stores. Curbside pickup may be convenient, but shopping in person is just better.
I think we’ll be doing more of that.
We spent the afternoon catching up on the news. Isolated as we are here, it’s all too easy to dismiss what seems not to affect us — but it does, or at the very least it can.
Ignorance is not bliss. Not for us.

As sunset approached, we decided to bring out the Ranger and go for a ride down The Mountain. It was the perfect time of day to take leave of the homesite and see our surroundings in (literally) a different light.

We stopped at the bottom of the road and chatted awhile with a couple of our neighbors. When we left, we raced the neighborhood pit bull, Sparky, and almost took out a pair of whitetails spooked by the commotion.
How fast can an obsessed pit bull run? I really can’t say.
What I do know is that I had to push the Ranger past 35mph to pull away from Sparky. Good dog.
Take care of yourselves, Patriots. Stay calm. Stay sharp. Stay free.
