They say it’s the busiest travel day of the year

I want to begin by saying that I have no observations to share about the incident this morning at the US-Canada border. Despite relentless media coverage and a pointless presser by the vapid governor of New York, none of us knows enough to make a sound judgment about what happened, much less draw conclusions.

Gov. Chokehold clumsily kept acknowledging how anxiety-ridden everyone is these days, and that she was there to help people “dial back” the stress. Personally, I found that strange.

I’m not anxious. I don’t feel a bit of the stress she’s talking about. And if you, dear reader, regardless of who you are or where you are, make the conscious choice to reject the fear peddled by media and the regime, you’ll be amazed at how quickly that manufactured stress leaves your life.

Focus on what affects your world. Most of what you’re being told matters, doesn’t.

Deb had another job interview this morning, conducted via video link at the bank where she’d interviewed the other day. It lasted about a half-hour, and when she returned to the truck, she reported that it went very well.

We swung by Harps and picked up our Thanksgiving-dinner fixins, a typically pleasant and cheerful experience. Back on The Mountain, Deb put the food away while I addressed the only winterizing tasks still undone.

The fresh-water hose that runs across the driveway got its own heating element and an insulating wrap. I also installed a temperature-actuated plug for the heat lamp in the well shed, along with a piece of plywood to serve as a heat shield. (I want the thermostat to be tripped by ambient temp inside the enclosure, not by the heat lamp.)

I was wrapping up the work when Deb came out to tell me that the branch manager of the bank had left her a voice-mail, asking her to call him at her earliest convenience. She retired to the cabin, away from the dogs and other distractions.

She got the job. It’s part-time, at least to begin with. Once she passes a background check, they’ll determine her start date.

Obviously, I’m proud of her. A second income, however modest, will play an important role in what we’re doing here. And, yeah, it sure is a great way to head into Thanksgiving.

Take care of yourselves, Patriots. Stay calm. Stay sharp. Stay free.
