Right off the bat, I’ll tell you that late this afternoon I thumbed-up the final score of the Ohio State football game. I took note of the result — the Buckeyes lost The Game, again — put my phone away and went on with my American Life.
There was a time when not only did I care about the outcome, my very identity depended on it. Not anymore. I can summon the interest simply to wonder what happened, look it up, and that’s it.
Deb and I devoted our Saturday to the visiting cousins. Our destination this time was a place we’d never been — Bull Shoals Caverns, less than a half-hour from The Mountain.

Pretty cool cave. The seven of us were the only ones there and got our own private tour.
From there we drove a few miles east to the visitors center at Bull Shoals White River State Park, another new stop for us. The exhibits inside were fascinating, but for me the best part was the outdoor observation deck — a panoramic view of the dam, with Bull Shoals Lake to our left and the White River to our right.

We ended our field trip at Laura’s Mexican Kitchen in Yellville. After the meal, Deb and I said our goodbyes to the cousins and turned back toward Home.
Stopping by a neighbor’s on our way up The Mountain, we accepted an offer extended (unprompted) yesterday afternoon. He had an old three-drawer tool cart he wanted to get rid of, and all we had to do was take it away.
We’d been reluctant to spend $160 on a new one, and this was exactly what we needed. With gratitude, we loaded it up and brought it back to the cabin.
Tomorrow, if I were to venture a guess, we’ll spend the day in recovery mode. Deb really pushed herself (and her still-healing fractured foot) the last few days. I’m feelin’ it, too, pretty jammed up from my tumble off the ladder last week.
In short, I expect we’ll take the day off. That may or may not include this blog.

Take care of yourselves, Patriots. Stay calm. Stay sharp. Stay free.
