Dispatch from The Murk

When we come down from The Mountain, as I did this morning on my way to the transfer station and other errands, we traverse a bench along its northern shoulder — falling off steeply to the left, rising more gently to the right. That’s where most of the snow remains from what fell eight or nine days ago, on a slope that doesn’t see a lot of sun in this colder season.

It was foggy today, too, and I mean absurdly soupy. The surface of our road was as slippery as I’ve ever seen it, with rain on top of ice on top of hard-packed snow. The subdivision road, to my surprise, was much worse, and I adjusted my speed to match the conditions.

Halfway to the county road, I spied a whitetail peeking from the woods to my right, just ahead. I tapped the brakes — once, not hard, barely enough engage the brake lights — and immediately the tail end came around. I was about 45 degrees out-of-shape before I got it corrected.

Yeah, it was pretty slick.

I dropped off trash, bought a blue kerosene can (for the neighbor who’d loaned us his torpedo heater) at Miller Hardware, picked up the mail and did a light grocery run at Harps. I swung back by The Mountain to grab empty gas cans and headed toward Flippin.

At Walmart, I grabbed vitamins we were short on and a pair of warmer gloves. Gas at Murphy USA was $2.679. (I didn’t take a discount today.) Four gallons went into the Silverado, nine into the cans.

Back on The Mountain, I dropped off the new kerosene can (still empty) at the neighbor’s. And yeah, we talked in his garage awhile.

This afternoon brought rain, served in buckets, and temps in the mid-40s. There will be no more freezing for a while.

I realize there’s a lot going on in the wider world — some of it of real consequence, most of it manufactured drama and so-called “palace intrigue.”

Yes, the presidential primaries are underway. Last week it was Iowa, where Trump trounced the field and effectively cleared it. Today it’s New Hampshire, the most fascinating aspect of which will be to see if he can fend-off a globalist Uniparty Princess. If he can’t, presumably she’d have momentum heading into the primary in her home state next month.

Honestly, I don’t believe that Trump can lose the nomination. He can only have it stolen from him.

The most important issue facing America is the unchecked invasion of illegals crossing our borders. Yesterday came disturbing news that SCOTUS had ruled to allow the feds (Border Patrol agents, that is) to cut and remove razor wire that the state of Texas installed along the US-Mexico border.

Texas is doing a job — protecting and defending American citizens — that the federal government refuses to do in the face of the greatest threat to national sovereignty in our history. Now the high court, in a 5-4 majority ruling that included a Trump appointee and a justice who’s not a biologist, has told Texas to step aside and let the invaders come.

Obviously, that’s wrong. This isn’t a tipping point — it has the very real potential to be a flashpoint.

There’s every indication that Texas won’t simply roll over. How will they respond? Will rank-and-file Border Patrol agents follow superiors’ orders? That might be the most interesting dynamic to watch.

Americans are under attack, both across our borders and by our own government. I’m paying attention, and so should you.

Take care of yourselves, Patriots. Stay calm. Stay sharp. Stay free.
