Like a lion

The March wind lashing The Mountain today was relentless, all day long and strong. The sound drowned out everything else, the rare lull seeming odd whenever it interrupted the near-constant roar.

It flipped our soft shed. No damage done that I can see.

Early this afternoon I went walking — into the woods and out, down the road and back up. Stopping to rest in a clearing north of the cabin, I heard the crack of a tree surrendering to the wind and the rustle as it fell to the ground somewhere west of me.

Hardwood, I thought. Rotten anyway. Pithy. Not a huge tree. A big branch, maybe, up high. That was my sense from the sound alone.

I never did see the tree. Lots of deadfall in these woods.

But there was more to this day than just a big blow. The Mountain has gone months without its pastels and vibrant hues, and this week they’ve begun to come back. Wildflowers are peeking up from the carpet of fallen leaves. No dogwood quite yet, but redbud.

I caught the fragrance of the wild cherry trees even before I saw the blooms.

This time two years ago, we were preparing to return to Ohio and close down that life. Last year we watched spring come to The Mountain, but only when visiting for a few hours at a time.

Now we see the seasons change moment by wondrous moment.

It was worth the wait.

The Uniparty candidate for the GOP nomination won her first primary over the weekend — in The Swamp, of course. (DC, that is.) She got almost two-thirds of the votes cast and swept all 19 delegates.

Trump now leads her in the delegate race by a count of 243 to 44. Tomorrow is “Super Tuesday,” when 15 states (including Arkansas) hold primaries. A Trump sweep is a very real possibility.

A Trump win here is a certainty.

And speaking of Trump, SCOTUS handed him a win of a different sort today. In a unanimous decision, The Supremes ruled that Colorado doesn’t have the constitutional authority to invoke the “insurrection clause” of the 14th Amendment and boot Trump off the ballot.

Progressives, of course, have lost their shit over that. There are 30 other states trying to do what Colorado did, and their chances of pulling it off have dropped to just about zero.

So it looks like everything’s lining up for Trump to win the nomination before the month is out. Looming over that, however, are 91 felony counts in one federal and three state criminal cases.

Every one of those charges may, in fact, be unfiltered bullshit. I wouldn’t suggest that they constitute a reason not to vote for Trump in the primary or the general. But it’d be unwise to discount the effect that those legal predicaments will have on the country, whether he wins in November or not.

Definitely, my friends, stand your ground. But get used to hearing the word “upheaval,” because that best describes what’s coming.

Just wait ’til FLOTUS #44 announces that she’s running, to save her party from Doctor Dementia. It’ll make 1968 look like a garden party.

Take care of yourselves, Patriots. Stay calm. Stay sharp. Stay free.
