This morning began with a visual reminder of just how far we’ve come in the last 366 days. I saw a panorama that Deb took on March 28th, 2023, from right about where the picnic table sits today.
The hole for our house (the one we didn’t build) was chiseled-out by then, an idle excavator parked where the cabin’s side door is now. The spoils from all that digging and hammering were piled on the west side of the original driveway, forming a wall eight feet high in places and 150 feet long.
The driveway surface was clay and rock, not gravel. There was no camper, no shed, no cabin. We had no septic, no electric and no water.
We were only “visiting” that day, still living in a campground an hour away.
Less than a month later, we realized that we’d backed ourselves into a financial corner and pulled the plug on our plans. We killed the build to save the dream.
And here we are. The dream’s alive.
Naturally, this morning I couldn’t resist taking another panorama from about the same spot.
We own the road that brought us here — missteps as well as sound decisions, failures and good calls and everything in between. Today’s image confirms that our aim is true and our hard work has paid off.
You ain’t seen nothin’ yet.
Take care of yourselves, Patriots. Stay calm. Stay sharp. Stay free.
