Today was a poorly cooked nothing-burger. Still a day in the best place I’ve ever lived, for sure, but all in all it didn’t amount to much. I puttered. I did a few chores. I enjoyed the sunshine and warm (mid-80s) temps. That’s about it.
My biggest accomplishment, I guess, was pulling together the toad gear we used to bring Mercy along behind the motorhome a few years ago — a Blue Ox tow bar and a Blue Ox inertial braking system — photographing it and placing a couple of online ads.
That stuff became irrelevant when we sold the bus. We’d moved on even before that. If we can free up some storage space and raise a little cash, then selling it is the proverbial no-brainer.
What I’d really like to talk about today is something Tucker Carlson said in the video I shared the other day. I caught it the first time I watched. It made me chuckle. I called Deb’s attention to it.
Here, then, is an image of the transcript, along with my transcription of the transcript (to decipher faithfully what AI created).
“No, you can’t build an industrial wind farm on the mountains that I look at. And if you’re going to do that, we’re going to find out if a .308 can take one down.
“This is like a massive debate where I live — ‘Can a .308 do that? It’s a pretty good NATO round. Like, it could do it, right?’
“‘No, 50BMG, minimum!’
“I’ve never actually done it. I’m moving toward doing it. I will do it before I die. That little ‘bucket list’ thing. You know what I mean — vacation in Tahiti, mile-high club, whatever’s on yours.
“Okay, wow. I can’t believe I just said that. Sorry, I just revealed too much.
“But seeing if a .308 can actually stop an industrial wind turbine? Yeah, that’s on my list. It is.
“And when I get taken to jail, I’m going to be a prisoner of conscience. I’m going to be the Julian Assange of western Maine.”
So to a room full of Teddy Roosevelt admirers, Tucker Carlson announced that someday he’ll shoulder his hunting rifle, take aim, and deliver a well-placed round to the heart of a wind turbine. Was that a brave statement? Or foolish? Principled? Or irresponsible? One could make a case for any of those, I think. Maybe all of them.
All I know is that Tucker and I see this the same way. If wind turbines started popping up along the crest of Hall Mountain, what would I do? What could I do?
I hope that day never comes.
By the way, he can keep his .308 Winchester. I’ll stick with the .30-06 Springfield cartridge.
Take care of yourselves, Patriots. Stay calm. Stay sharp. Stay free.
