Okay, about today’s header image — while Deb and I were browsing Big Steve’s Gold & Pawn Emporium in Mountain Home yesterday, I spotted that hat and pointed it out to her. We had a good laugh.
She took that photo. Later, she posted it to Facebook.
Yup, that’s my girl.
I can imagine some folks staring at this pic, fuming, trying to figure out what offends them more. And that, dear readers, is why I chose to make it the header image.
Looking back on yesterday’s post, I saw something I want to correct — specifically, what I said about how long it’s been since we dined at a restaurant with cloth napkins. That actually was 16 months ago at Chateau on the Lake in Branson.
A few months before, we ate at DeVito’s north of Harrison, on our wedding anniversary.
Prior to that, you’d have to go back to late 2021. It’s something we enjoy, sure, but we don’t indulge very often.
We’re looking forward to returning to Gaston’s, though.
Speaking of Gaston’s, on our way out yesterday I picked up an inexpensive coffee mug. I needed one, actually.
My favorite, a handmade mug we bought at Pigeon Forge Pottery on our shakedown cruise a few years ago, is in need of repair. And the cup I’ve been using just isn’t cuttin’ it — because it’s a cup.
I took my new Gaston’s mug for a test-drive this morning and declared it good. Close to perfect, even.
We got storms here overnight. Our rain gauge showed just a quarter-inch, but I believe we got more than that. NWS estimates were three times that amount for these coordinates.
Early this morning I made one more valiant effort to trace and fix the Silverado’s inoperative left-rear turn signal.
I checked every fuse. I was under the hood and underneath the truck. I probed voltage whereever I could reach.
And I failed.
It’s all but certain that there’s a broken or fried wire in a spot I can’t get to using my current means and methods. I’m probably lookin’ at replacing that whole sub-harness.
White House staff reportedly are “miserable” amid rumors that the current occupant of the Oval Office will be dumped as the Democrat nominee.
I’ve heard that YouTube is tightening its already restrictive rules about firearms content.
Michigan is the latest state to go full-Nazi on raw milk, recently raiding an established organic co-op and seizing over $90,000 worth of raw-dairy products.
Of those three stories, the one you find most relevant says a lot about your grasp of our current predicament.
Even though Ubi Libertas Blog doesn’t have a comments section, believe it or not people do get in touch with me to offer feedback and to ask my opinion about this or that. I’ve been contacted in all manner of ways, from encrypted digital messaging to smoke signals.
I don’t often reply directly. Most of the time I’ll work my response into a post, if I answer at all.
Lately, I’ve collected enough questions that it’s beginning to look like I should devote an entire blog post to addressing them. Most have to do with prepping, both generally and on specific aspects, and the best ways to respond to the current cultural and political climate.
I’d like to do that within the next week, if I can. No promises, though.
Take care of yourselves, Patriots. Stay calm. Stay sharp. Stay free.
