I once was lost

Ten days from the time I publish this post, the polls will close on Election Day 2024. All votes will have been cast — technically. The anti-American Left, manifest as Democrats and other progressives, will continue to “harvest” fraudulent ballots that shouldn’t be counted.

At least the unsolicited and unwelcome robo-calls and text messages I’ve been deleting ruthlessly for months will stop.

When I “voted early” yesterday, it marked only the second time in my Life that I haven’t cast my ballot on Election Day. (I was out of the country on business the other time.) And no, it didn’t feel right — it didn’t feel American. Given threats posed to the electoral process by the current regime and its allies, however, I deemed it necessary.

I voted for Donald J. Trump and JD Vance, of course. In down-ballot races, I voted for Republican candidates. (That’s not hard to do in Ozarkansas, where many run unopposed.)

Obviously, I made those decisions long ago.

I’m by no means a card-carrying Republican. I don’t believe that the GOP is the cure for what ails my country. But to abstain at any level, to act based on some sort of tortured intellectual rationale, to ignore the clear and present danger to my country, would’ve given an advantage to The Whore Who Would Be Queen (and other avowed enemies of Liberty).

To put it plainly: There’s no case to be made for Chuckles that’s consistent with American values, Founding Principles, and law. A vote for Chuckles is a vote for the unmaking of America.

(Never mind that she’s a world-class dumbass.)

This presidential election, like the last one, has been rigged by the Permanent State. I’m not at all confident about the outcome, but I’ve done my part.

If you’re a true American, you’ll do yours.

It’s been a minute or two since I’ve posted about a knife, or knives in general. As time goes by here, highlighting something new and different requires a deeper dive into my accumulated blades, and honestly, I’ve been so content with my current rotation that I’ve been using only what’s out.

I’ll remedy that today.

This Bark River Knives North Star EDC descends from the full-size North Star and improves on the earlier (and similar) Mini North Star. The design is proof that a relatively small knife can punch above its weight class.

The North Star EDC is about the size of a substantial paring knife — 7-1/4 inches overall, the blade 3-3/8 inches long and 1/8 inch thick. Full tang and convex grind, of course. CPM 3V carbon steel. Mine is fitted with handles of tigerstripe G10.

Handsome, I think. Halloween-appropriate, too.

Even though I generally bring a larger blade woodswalking, this knife always reminds me that I really don’t need to. It easily handles everything I customarily encounter, short of chopping (which I rarely do with a knife anyway).

Firemaking, food prep, administrative tasks — all are well within its capabilities, thanks to a slicey profile and that delightful 3V steel. Ditto cleaning fish or processing small game.

Top to bottom: Bark River Bravo 1, North Star EDC, Little Creek.

One approach to woodcraft tools is to carry a set, and for me that’s often meant pairing a large belt knife (like a Bravo 1 or Bravo 1.5) with a pocketknife or a smaller fixed-blade (like a Little Creek) to cover a wide range of tasks. That’s a solid, time-tested way to go about things.

For most of us, however, most of the time, and for the woodcraft tasks we perform most often, one “in-between” fixed-blade knife is enough. It lightens and simplifies the load.

As for the “EDC” (every-day carry) monicker, it fits. A knife like the North Star EDC is just about ideal outside the woods, too.

Imagine getting lost — in your own backyard.

Not search-and-rescue lost, but the kind of lost that puts the world behind you and keeps it there. The kind of lost that’s peaceful, soundless but for the chattering of woodland creatures.

Imagine being so lost that you spend an hour looking for the source of those sassafras leaves you’ve been seeing on the ground for three years — and finally discovering it.

Imagine being so lost that you don’t ever want to be found.

Take care of yourselves, Patriots. Stay calm. Stay sharp. Stay free.
