It was back in the 50s today. Ozarkansas will see 60s tomorrow, 70s on Monday and mid-80s on Tuesday.
For the last month, I’ve been splitting up my grocery purchases. Instead of relying on the Flippin Walmart alone (which had been the pattern since moving to The Mountain), now I do most of my shopping at the Harps in Yellville.
Harps, though it’s a regional chain, is a much more compact store, which I find agreeable. The staff are friendly and helpful. And it’s in Yellville, same as me.
I do keep an eye on prices. Yes, I’ll pay a little more to buy from a store in town, or even Allen’s in Summit, but sometimes the difference is great enough (or what I want isn’t available), and I can justify a Walmart run.
That’s what I did this morning.
Even there, at a big-box store for curbside pickup, the Southern vibe is evident. One young fella in particular usually comes to my truck, and I’ve gotten to know him a bit over the months.
I do love it here.
I stand by what I said on Monday — I’m not trying to win hearts and minds here. As you absorb and process what I reveal about Deb’s departure, it doesn’t ruffle me if you don’t take my side.
It humbles me, however, that so many of you have shown support and true friendship as I navigate this predicament. Some of you, to be candid, really surprised me — I would’ve expected you to hold me at arm’s length, or walk away from the drama entirely, but you’re hangin’ with me.
Among those expressing solidarity, there’s been a common theme: “That’s just wrong.”
I agree, of course. There may be an explanation someday, but there’s no defense.
That said, there are times when fleeing and cutting off communication are absolutely right. No one who’s the victim of abuse — physical, mental, emotional — should stick around. Running away is the only reasonable thing to do.
Obviously — or at least it’s obvious to those who know me, and apparently to some who don’t — that’s not what happened between Deb and me. Others will jump to that ugly conclusion anyway, almost automatically.
I can’t control that.
I have nothing to apologize for — truly, I have no regrets. And in a bad situation, that’s a very good place to be.
Take care of yourselves, Patriots. Stay calm. Stay sharp. Stay free.
