Today’s forecast ended with the words, “winds light and variable.” That’s just what I wanted to hear — between everyday discards and residue from electrical work (etc.) in the cabin, my combustibles had reached critical mass.
I was overdue for a good burn, and I had the perfect day for it.

I packed the barrel tight. It took two full burns, but I bid good riddance to stuff I’d been staring at for far too long.

Recently I suggested that anger, if it’s righteous, has the ability to clarify. And if justifiable fury can clear the air, fire purifies it.

The simple act of setting alight that which no longer serves a purpose — trash, in this case — is liberating.
I almost always run the Ranger down to the neighbors’ after finishing with the burn barrel. And today, five weeks after Deb left and disappeared, I broke the news to them.
They were shocked at what I had to say, which I limited to basic facts — I avoided characterizing and speculating. Each of them had noticed a change in comings and goings on our road, as well as Deb’s absence from the bank on weekdays.
Both were respectful and kind.
A good friend of mine back in Ohio traveled to Wheeling, West Virginia last night to catch the Aaron Lewis show at the Capitol Theatre. Knowing how I admire AFL and his music, this afternoon he messaged me a video.
I have to work harder than usual for my joy these days. This brief clip, as well as the thoughtfulness that brought it to me, was reason to smile.
Take care of yourselves, Patriots. Stay calm. Stay sharp. Stay free.
