I wasn’t asleep, I was only nesting

Birdsong mesmerized me yesterday morning. The Mountain Chorus was constant and diverse — led, of course, by several Carolina wrens competing for turf or mates.

Sure, I’ve lived other places where I’ve been serenaded by birds at the dawn of my day. But nothing like this.

You’ll just have to take my word for it.

“Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.”

“Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.”

Thomas Edison

After a milestone Thursday, maybe you expected me to dive headlong into finishing the shower surround. Nope — I had something else in mind that’d give me a day’s break from that sort of task.

The bulk of the kitchen still needed to move, and much of it needed washing or at least a good wipedown before it crossed the driveway. I kicked into gear after my third cup of coffee and got goin’ on it.

For something that occupied me for ten hours, there’s not much to tell. Every piece of cookware, dinnerware, and tableware is clean and put away in the cabin. Very little food remains in the camper — the fridge is almost empty, and the cupboards are all but bare. All of my back stock and pantry items are moved, organized, and out of sight.

It was a helluva lot of work. By 6pm, I was gassed.

Now we’ll see what today brings.

Take care of yourselves, Patriots. Stay calm. Stay sharp. Stay free.
