Not only will I talk politics today, I’m gonna lead with it.
What unfolded in a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on Wednesday indicts the anti-American Left in general and the Democrat party in particular. A senator from Virginia — who, but for Trump, would’ve been installed as VPOTUS in 2017 — said this:
“The statement [by the nominee present before the committee] that our rights do not come from our laws or our government is extremely troubling.”
The rest of his soliloquy was more of the same — it’s the very definition of tyranny, supported by historical ignorance and breathtakingly flawed logic. See for yourself in the video below.
If the senator from Virginia had a blog, it’d be called “Ubi Lex (Ibi Patria).”
Sen. Ted Cruz, with typical fiery eloquence, delivered a righteous rebuttal:
“I just walked into the hearing room as [the senator from Virginia] was saying that, and I almost fell out of my chair, because that radical and dangerous notion… is literally the founding principle upon which the United States of America was created.
“And if you do not believe me… then you can believe perhaps the most prominent Virginian ever to serve, Thomas Jefferson, who wrote in the Declaration of Independence, ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, and that they are endowed by their Creator’ — not by government, not by the Democratic National Committee, but by God — ‘with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.'”
“Government exists to protect those rights.”
This isn’t about religion — it’s about natural rights, birthrights, the rights of every person who breathes. Democrats’ tortured, unprincipled and relentless assault means to negate what is in us all.
Government’s purpose, and its prime directive, is to secure our inalienable rights. Never forget that.
And just like that, The Mountain is in a “moderate drought.”

Wildfire danger remains “low,” at least for now.

I’ve been sleeping very well lately, for reasons that should be obvious. So soundly, in fact, to be having vivid dreams.
More now than at any other time in my life, I remember many of them.
I could talk here about the dream in which Smudge was abducted while I was away at the final divorce hearing. (Not gonna happen. Trust me.) Or I could tell you as much as I’m able about the woman who visited me on The Mountain, unexpected and unannounced. (Our lengthy interaction was engaged and pleasant, but I can neither identify nor describe her. You know how dreams are.)
And dozens more.

I don’t hang a lot of weight on these nocturnal visions. Trying to interpret them consumes none of my time. What’s important, at least to me, is that I’m so very much at peace in waking moments that my sleeping subconscious has decided to come along for the ride.
That’s significant.
The temperature didn’t even reach 80°F on Friday. Milky sky. Cool wind from the north. It didn’t feel much like early September in The South.
I believe I’ll bring the rest of the bucked firewood down to the wood yard today or maybe Sunday, which is forecast to begin around 50°F. The rest of the week will be busy — preparing for distasteful matters at month’s end, of course, but also putting a more solid foundation under continuing to live on The Mountain.
In short, I’ll make moves that’ll better allow me to build, maintain and improve. I’ll say more when I can.
Life is good.
Take care of yourselves, Patriots. Stay calm. Stay sharp. Stay free.
