Damn, those wild turkeys were movin’ fast. I braked and reached for my phone to double-tap the power button and launch the camera.
I was able to get off only one shot.

There must’ve been 20 or more birds coming out of a neighbor’s pasture and crossing the subdivision road. I caught a handful of stragglers in that picture.

Timing is everything. A missed opportunity — or was it?
I rolled forward slowly. Once I’d cleared the trees, I looked to my left. An unperturbed whitetail doe was waiting for me in the brush at the edge of the woods.

Well, that was cool.
Smudge and I were on our way to town (Flippin). An ordinary trip on an ordinary Tuesday, albeit a pleasant one.
I decided to capture a few scenes through the Silverado’s windshield and share them here.

On the road up The Mountain, I snapped a couple of images of autumn flora off to the driver’s side.

Several hours later, while Smudge and I were out enjoying the bright afternoon, I saw another large orbweaver spider. She was swinging on a filament she’d spun from the top of my truck’s radio antenna to the A-pillar on the passenger side.

I watched her, transfixed. This is remarkable to me.

The cell-phone photos turned out well, too, I think.
Even now, in my 69th year, I still have a sense of wonder. There’s so much left to see. I can’t wait to find out what awaits me ’round every corner.
Take care of yourselves, Patriots. Stay calm. Stay sharp. Stay free.
