Tuesday, for me

Today’s post may rival the most inconsequential you’ve ever seen on Ubi Libertas Blog. The reason — I’m flat exhausted. Between dealing with snow and single-digit overnights, the last several days simply sapped me.

I occupied myself Tuesday only with necessaries. Besides hangin’ with the Heeler and knockin’ out daily chores, I did a little housekeeping — vacuuming, de-scaling the coffeemaker, cleaning sinks, scooping ashes, doing laundry.

The kitchen sink was running slow. I blew away the (presumed) clog with my shop-vac.

I didn’t feed the woodstove for ten hours and I didn’t have to fetch more firewood.

Outside, I knocked down icicles and chipped accumulated ice off the stoops. I finished cleaning the snow off the Silverado.

I didn’t take a nap yesterday. I took two. And I had a Bloody Mary (bourbon, not vodka) at three in the afternoon.

Today, we’ll drive into town. Yellville, I believe.

“Look, man, I didn’t ride motorcycles in Afghanistan with my MK18 just to come back home and endure fussy blithering snitches who call-in teenagers harmlessly doing doughnuts in their Titanic-level rustbucket $300 beatermobiles and having fun in the snow of empty parking lots to a business it turns out their parents own! Maybe mind your own business and let people enjoy life! I thought this was America!”

Dry conditions have worsened across northern Arkansas. According to data released by US Drought Monitor last Thursday, Marion County has entered “extreme drought.”

The only level more severe is “exceptional.” That’s encroached into territory two counties east of here.

Last weekend’s snowfall broke records set in the 19th century. As a result, the Arkansas Division of Forestry has painted the whole state green again — the risk of wildfire is deemed “low.”

The drought may not have eased, but nothing is likely to catch and burn when it’s this snowy and soggy.

Still, six counties left their burn bans in place, including Searcy to our south. Presumably, that’s because this is judged to be only a temporary reprieve. And it is.

Take care of yourselves, Patriots. Stay calm. Stay sharp. Stay free.
