The title of today’s post is the closest you’ll see to clickbait on Ubi Libertas Blog. I can assure you that the hair on my head, over eleven years now since it last felt the bite of scissors, is intact.
Shortly before the camper came up The Mountain three years ago, I took time to cut back vegetation intruding on and overhanging the road. I repeated the drill several months later in advance of the cabin’s arrival, that time more aggressively.
I fully intended to give the road another thorough “haircut” last spring but didn’t. The job landed on this year’s to-do list.

It’s not at all difficult, just time-consuming. I have a three-quarter-mile stretch of roadside to manage, a chore that usually requires only loppers. My objective is to prune growth to the edge of the road, with eight or nine feet of clearance overhead. Rarely do I take off more.

Going beyond that would be pointless. We all accept that the road is narrow. Cutting back overgrowth any farther wouldn’t really make it wider.
I had a great morning for the work yesterday. The air was cool enough to be comfortable, the setting sublime and the task almost therapeutic, peaceful.

I was done by noon and chillin’ with Smudge before the heat of the day. And I’d checked another item off my spring cleanup list.

Take care of yourselves, Patriots. Stay calm. Stay sharp. Stay free.
