Apparently, even without a paid WordPress plan, I can still publish to ubilibertas.blog. And if you’ve gone to the trouble of subscribing — either via e-mail or directly through WordPress — you’ll still receive notifications of new posts.
I think.
I’ll experiment a little and research what’s possible (as well as what’s not) before making any ironclad promises.
This dot-blog domain is mine, at least. Renewal, which comes up in November, is affordable. I don’t intend to let that lapse.

Meanwhile, I’ve published four posts to Blogspot. In case you missed those, here are the links:
- Greetings from the new home of Ubi Libertas Blog (July 2nd)
- Happy 250th, America (July 3rd)
- The last word in Liberty (July 4th)
- Looking back on a great Fourth (July 6th)
As quirky as the WordPress “Jetpack” interface is, I’ve become familiar with it over the last six years. The Blogger utility (Blogspot‘s equivalent) is just as weird, though, and the app is comically featureless — the way it handles text and images (or doesn’t) makes it hard to create something I can be proud of.
Then again, Blogspot is free. So there’s that.
But maybe WordPress is, too. Or it can be.
Long story short — I’m bringing Ubi Libertas Blog back over here. Whether that’s permanent or temporary, I can’t say just yet.
If something changes (again), I’ll let you know. Thanks for stickin’ with me.
Beyond the virtual move, I truly haven’t much to report. Life, as always, is good. Smudge and I are managing the summer heat pretty well. Thunderstorms late yesterday brought rain.
We ran errands in town this morning.
Absent any sort of compelling narrative, then — and I’ve been meaning to do this for a while now — here’s a snapshot of the tools I carry these days:

Left-to-right, you’re looking at a Glock 19 Gen3 with a spare 15-round magazine; a Western 648A belt knife; a Benchmade 551 Griptilian; and a Victorinox Fieldmaster.
If you assume I’ve assembled this loadout specifically to handle rustic business on The Mountain, guess again. With the exception of the fixed-blade knife, it’s the same complement of everyday tools I once carried in an urban-suburban life — 9mm pistol, mag, folder, slipjoint.
A couple of those items are worth highlighting. First, the Glock has been on my side for almost 20 years. I’ve run tens of thousands of rounds through it without a single failure. I take care of it, I trust it and I carry it.
Ever since Bark River Knives self-immolated back in March, I’ve intentionally been toting something else into the woods for a while. That Western sheath knife has seen more service lately than anything else in my rotation.

I won’t recount its entire history today (I did that here in October of 2024), except to say that I bought it new in 1978. From Montana to The Mountain, motorcycle camping to a motorhome journey, it’s served me well.

Scarred and ordinary, it’s earned its place over nearly 50 years as one of my all-time favorite blades. There’s no stuff like old stuff.
I guess that says something about me. What does your EDC kit say about you?

Take care of yourselves, Patriots. Stay calm. Stay sharp. Stay free.
