Shhhh! Adults are talking.

Since my last post, I’ve been composing a couple of rants. One didn’t go anywhere coherent (I canned it), the other prompted by two pieces I saw on The Babylon Bee.

Let’s start with this:

It’s a law of Nature that most people who traffic in –isms and –ists have absolutely no clue what they’re talking about. Racism. Sexism. Fascism. White nationalism.

And yes, my fellow Patriots, that sort of ignorance even infects much of our righteous bleating about socialism. You know it’s true.

I found it amusing, then, to see The Bee call bullshit on the reflexive “Narcissist!” crutch as well. Spot-on.

If that offends you, I’m not sorry. Besides, you might want to hold your fire, because I’m about to slay another sacred cow.

Again, The Babylon Bee:

Those of us who think critically aren’t shy about debunking hoaxes. Climate change. Gun violence. Russian collusion. Critical race theory. Asylum claims. DEI. The WuFlu “pandemic.” But because we live in a time when compassion is valued over wisdom, we stop short of also exposing the “autism crisis” for what it is.

It’s time we told the truth: The “autism crisis is a scam. I’ve been saying that for years.

So-called “experts” are quick to present scary statistics that seem to show an alarming spike in autism. Take this graph, for example, published by an advocacy group:

It purports to illustrate the shocking increase in the prevalence of autism — from 1:10,000 in 1970 to a staggering 1:31 in 2022. Why? Well, those “experts” say either that they haven’t yet identified the reason, or that autism is caused by “a range of factors.”

While I’m no scientist, I can tell you exactly what’s behind the gaudy numbers — the definition of what constitutes “autism” has expanded continuously over the last 25 years.

The math has changed, nothing else. It unites thousands of dissimilar afflictions into a publicity juggernaut.

The key to this con game is the phrase, “on the spectrum.” It’s a license to be vague and imprecise while awaiting the next official revision of the definition. It gives kids permission to be slow and lazy and sloppy and apathetic and violent. It allows parents — especially mothers, who crave such things — to claim that their child is “special.”

It deals shameless opportunists a new card to play with their employers, the courts, and The Entitlement State.

For all intents and purposes, there are no new conditions, no new disorders or disabilities, no new neuroses or psychoses. So we can stop blaming water and air and food for an “epidemic” that truly doesn’t exist.

The real “crisis” here is one of credibility — elites training us how to think, aided by our own inability to see through their fraud.

And The Bee‘s satire, as usual, strikes close to the truth of the matter. Considering how I opened today’s post, one line in particular is worth highlighting:

“A reporter from Fox News then asked about narcissism, but the HHS Secretary confirmed that narcissism is also caused by autism.”

See what I mean?

It seems fitting, in a way, to wrap my rant with a classic clip from comic Christina Pazsitzky:

That’s gold right there. Typical of GenXers, however, ChristinaP gives her generation too much credit for inventing independence and bullshit detection. My fellow Boomers and I can put that claim to rest with just two words.

Bitch, please.

Bunny Badger (don’t care) is getting cocky, sure that I won’t let Miss Smudge off-leash in the morning.

“When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became a man, I gave up childish ways.”

1 Corinthians 13:11 (RSV)

After I stopped recording, a tufted titmouse and a house finch added their voices to this chorus. Not counting the rooster crowing in the valley, that made seven species in five minutes.

Smudge and I took this morning’s third business trip north of the cabin. We spent time at the picnic table near the fire pit, a place we hadn’t visited much lately, then made our way indoors.

I came back outside to capture a few images.

The clump of native woodland sunflowers (Helianthus divaricatus) that I’ve encouraged the last 14 months is doing very well. Having a splash of gold along the driveway again this year has been worth the effort.

Behind it in the photo is my wood yard. I walked down that way, just because, and I congratulated myself (again) for producing what now sits seasoning on those six pallets.

Nearby, an equal number of empty pallets lean against a couple of trees, awaiting work that’ll begin in the fall.

I also took note of how much firewood I have left over from last heating season. I’d call it a half-pallet, give or take.

That wood’s next stop will be the rack next to the cabin, which stands empty and waiting.

All of this makes me smile. My favorite time of year is right around the corner.

Take care of yourselves, Patriots. Stay calm. Stay sharp. Stay free.
