Day 231

It’s Day 231 of the Ohio Shutdown and Day 167 of Urban Warfare (The Home Version).

Deb and I are good, thanks. For me it’s been the kind of day that reflects the times in which we live.

It’s been hard to avoid premature chest-thumping by Daffy McHairsniffer and his flunkey army. Mostly through surrogates, they’re already floating names for cabinet posts — identity politics means that Peter/Booty Judge is a lock — and previewing Daffy’s First Day.

We’d better hope that Trump’s challenges succeed. If they don’t, on January 21st this senile basement dweller will order a national mask mandate. Naturally, he’ll reverse Trump’s reversal of 44’s “dreamers” abomination. A shameless globalist, he’ll drag America back into the WHO and the Paris climate deal. He’ll fast-track gun control. He’ll lift travel restrictions and expand the definition of “asylum” — essentially a prelude to open borders.

More, and worse, will follow.

We warned you. We begged you to be ready. And now here we are.

The last thing a true American should do, however, is listen to people who say, “The election’s over. Go home, sit down, shut up and just go with it.”

Patriots don’t do that. I won’t do that.

These daily posts originated over on Facebook, as many of you know. I still share the links there every day, both to my personal timeline and to my Ubi Libertas page (and now to Ubi Libertas on Parler). The audience on the former is a mix of personal friends and professional contacts, some relatively new and some going back to my childhood in northeast Ohio.

I’m well aware that not all of my friends share my principles and my politics. That’s not a requirement for friendship, at least not in my world — not every ally is a friend, and not all of my friends are allies.

I do, however, insist on a certain decency and intellectual honesty from my leftist friends. None of them should assume that friendship comes with a pass to be a flaming asshole to me or others of like mind.

Apparently that’s getting harder for liberals to understand these days. But it’s my house, and those are my rules. And today I had to jettison (virtually) a couple of friends of almost 30 years.

They were “sad” about the views I expressed in Saturday’s post, “Day 229,” calling it “vile hatred” and “not very American.” They labeled Trump “an absolutely abhorrent human.”

See, now that’s gonna be a problem — when you insult me or this president, you’re attacking all of my like-minded friends and allies. A sign that Deb hung in our kitchen says it well:

“Mess with me, mess with the whole trailer park.”

The trailer park has my back and I have theirs.

I showed these “sad” ladies the door. They’ll no longer have to worry about my posts depressing them. I wish them well.

On Saturday afternoon, shortly after mainstream media began proclaiming the election over, I got a text message from a friend I respect a great deal, a Patriot of influence and accomplishment. He candidly expressed his frustration (to put it mildly) with the prospect of a presidential administration decimating our Constitution and destroying our country.

I felt the same frustration, of course, and I responded that America’s future is in our hands — Patriots’ hands. I said that if we want to save the country we love, it’s time to change our strategy and our tactics. Then I sent my friend this passage from Lincoln’s annual message to Congress in 1862:

“The dogmas of the quiet past are inadequate to the stormy present. The occasion is piled high with difficulty, and we must rise — with the occasion. As our case is new, so we must think anew, and act anew. We must disenthrall ourselves, and then we shall save our country.”

I want you to read that again.

Many years ago I committed those words to memory. And, from the same Lincoln message, these:

“No personal significance, or insignificance, can spare one or another of us. The fiery trial through which we pass, will light us down, in honor or dishonor, to the latest generation.”

No one is coming. It’s up to us.

Take care of yourselves. Stay calm. Stay sharp. Stay free.
