It’s Day 414 of 15 Days to Flatten the Curve. I’m told that Richard Michael DeWine announced that he’ll end Ohio’s mask mandate in three weeks.
[insert yawn here]
Deb and I are well.
We’ve been hearing all about the “fuel crisis” affecting certain states, and the oh-so-predictable panic that’s followed. Since we live on the road these days, we wondered if we’d start running into shortages and jacked-up prices.
Well, after leaving our Missouri campground this morning we stopped at a nearby Conoco and bought our 50 gallons of diesel with no lines and without incident, and at close to the lowest price we’ve ever paid. This full tank should last us a while, well past the hysteria.
Our route today took us out of Missouri and into northern Arkansas. I got a chance to test my evolving bus-driving skills on steep grades and some pretty damned twisty two-laners. Even though driving five miles an hour under the posted speed limit had me pulling a train at times, I didn’t let the traffic push me. Not my problem.

By early afternoon we’d landed at a beautiful state-run campground on a bluff overlooking a large lake. Our site is wooded and wonderful, with a shelter and a fire ring, 30A electric and water. It’s the kind of place we’ve been missing since we hit the road.
We finally got our postcard view. And, as the locals are known to say, this ain’t Arkansas — it’s The Ozarks.
Shortly after we got Ernie situated, Deb’s cousin, who lives in the area, drove up to our site. We spent hours talking, catching up, making the most of a great afternoon.
By the time he left the sun was low in the sky. Deb and I hooked up the dogs and walked down to the lakeshore, where we watched the sun set behind the hills.
That header photo tells you all you need to know about how we’re feeling right now. ‘Nuff said — we’ll see you tomorrow.
Take care of yourselves, Patriots. Stay calm. Stay sharp. Stay free.
