Misty morning, great day

The morning hours on The Mountain today were magical. With our shed-moving guy scheduled to arrive at 8am, we were up early and saw it all — at the homesite and while guiding the Ranger down to the base of our road, we marveled at the rising sun breaking through the fog and peeking through the trees.

Most of those images are Deb’s, by the way. She has a great eye.

The young man who’d be taking our shed from Deb’s cousin’s place to ours showed up on time, knew what he was doing and got down to business quickly. Unfortunately, his winch failed, complicating the process of getting the shed up onto the trailer. A bit of country ingenuity, along with enlisting the Ranger’s winch in the effort, got the job done.

Once loaded and secured, maneuvering the structure out and onto the road was, without exaggeration, like threading a needle. There was no margin for error. It took a good half-hour to negotiate the proper angle and clear two trees — and that was in the first 20 feet.

The quarter-mile journey to the new site we’d prepared was uneventful. So was backing the shed onto the pad. While bringing it down off the trailer, however, the building kept wanting to slide toward a large red cedar. Once again we contributed our own winch — this time it was the Wrangler’s — to tug the shed back in the direction we wanted it to go.

Eventually it was on the ground, blocked up and leveled. We paid the man, and he left before noon.

Deb and I then began bringing loads back from where they’d been stored overnight her cousin’s garage. We finished by 4:30pm, stood back and admired the first actual structure on our patch of Ozarkansas.

We couldn’t be happier. The setting is perfect, and landing the shed went well.

This is a significant moment for us. I’ll just leave it at that.

Take care of yourselves, Patriots. Stay calm. Stay sharp. Stay free.
